Nominated for the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles--2017 Best Foreign Language Film. The film is set in 1942, Mumbai, India. A Muslim fisherman Rafiq (Kaizad Gustad) befriends a Hindu doctor Manohar Gopinath Mazumdar (Rajit Kapoor). Their friendship evolves into an unlikely partnership where they make common cause to save Mumbai’s fishermen community from exploitation by European trawler operators. Both Rafiq and Manohar are determined to fight the atrocity by any means. They start a fearless battle against the mighty trawler operators who in turn plot against them. Their friendship turns into a dangerous conflict when Manohar’s family is targeted and his daughter is kidnapped. On 5 October 2017, it was announced that a film titled "Emperor Of The Sea" would be produced jointly in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil by Bejoy Nambiar's Amen Movie Monkeys along with Reshammiya's imprint Mahesh Films. Jose Simon was initially announced as director but later backed out from the project due to creative differences. Kaizad Gustad was later seen as the main cast. He also revealed details about his character during a press meet. Kaizad's other works included "Dum" (2014) and "Ishaqzaade" (2015). Bejoy Nambiar previously casted Kaizad in his previous production "Railways Indhiyaan". The film was announced under the title, "Emperors Of The Sea", but it was later changed to "King Of The Fishes". It is produced by Bejoy Nambiar and Reshammiya along with Benjamin Gilmour, Rajit Kapoor and Kaizad Gustadh. Initial reports showed that the film would be set during the 19th century and showcase an unlikely friendship between a British officer and a fisherman from Bombay. Then it was called "Emperors Of The Sea" and later it was titled as "King Of The Fishes". It was reported that the film has been based on a real life incident of exploitation of fishermen by trawlermen in Maharashtra. Another report mentions an upcoming Marathi movie of the same name, which is based on a true story of fishermen's unrest at Sindhudurg district. The movie is scheduled to release on 20 January 2017; however, due to some reasons, Reshammiya announced that it would be delayed for few months. After a few months of delay, it was announced that the film release on 2 March 2017. The shooting of the film commenced in Mumbai. Initially, the filming commenced at Alibaug, Maharashtra, which is a fishing village situated along the coast of Arabian Sea. On 18 November 2016, Rajit Kapoor tweeted that he has shot for his character's portions in Mumbai and they have completed shooting till then. In an interview with "Hindustan Times", Gustad revealed that about 40% of his scenes were shot but most of his scenes were currently being filmed at Alibaug and Bhayandar.
