Yemaya Chesave is a romantic comedy film starring Amr Waked, Dania Day, and Nisreen Faour. It was written and directed by Ahmed Ben Salah. The film focuses on the love story of two people who have to cross cultural divides in order to meet one another. The movie shows how love can conquer all boundaries that exist between people of different backgrounds. It is set in the small southern Egyptian village where Sabah lives with her family while selling clothes at a local market. Harouneh hails from Beirut, Lebanon after fleeing an abusive marriage with her son Youssef. She lives with her brother who runs a workshop in the city. Sabah's family has many rules of engagement for her to follow. She must not talk to strange men, must return home before sunset, and may not have a boyfriend. She also must stay at home when she is menstruating. She is often caught listening in on the conversations between men in the market when they discuss politics because she has a keen interest in politics. This interest in the conversations puts her at risk of being sexually harassed by men who frequent the market and have no compunction about harassing women or girls when they want to be heard above other conversations going on around them. One evening, Sabah is approached by a stranger who is selling clothes. Her family strongly disapproves of her talking to strangers and tells her not to speak to him. Sabah ignores her family and approaches the man anyway and invites him for dinner with him dirty laundry. The man purchases the clothes for money and decides to pay Sabah back by giving her a job washing his clothes for 50 EGP ($1). Sabah's family takes an immediate dislike of Harouneh, believing that she is trying to steal Sabah's boyfriend. Sabah's family is also upset that Sabah had been speaking to a man on her own, violating her own family's rules. Harouneh is from a very wealthy family and they believe that she will ruin Sabah's reputation if she stays in the village with her. Harouneh tells Sabah that her family is against her working for a poor man and then goes on to describe the luxurious life she lives in Beirut while showing off a magazine of photographs of what appears to be a very fancy home. Meanwhile, Youssef, Sabah's older brother, has been caught by his mother smoking marijuana outside his house. His mother assumes he has been watching Western TV and decides to teach him about the Islamic religion. One of his friends comes to try to convince him to leave marijuana alone, but Youssef is resistant. Youssef decides to take his new interest in Islam seriously and make it a part of his life. He begins fasting on the days of the week that would correspond with Friday observances. Youssef's mother takes him to an Islamic school for the blind where he has the opportunity to talk to other people who are interested in Islam or are already practicing Muslims. Youssef's mother, Touatir, is upset that her son was caught smoking marijuana by one of their neighbors, so she sends him away with Harouneh after telling him that they are going on vacation. cfa1e77820
